Many things in one, post

Don’t laugh at me ok?

Now, whenever I am back at KL, at the comfort of my own home, I usually only do one thing. Couch potato-ing. Whole Saturday and Sunday. I don’t go out, I don’t see friends, I don’t even see my boyfriend, unless really necessary, which is almost always never. The best part is, my mum will ‘deliver’ food and her bestest Hainanese milk tea to me, while I sit and camouflage into the living room’s black leather sofa. Hahaha!!! My sister will be playing with my DS ruthlessly. She is also addicted to Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney liao.

Yes, I watch all sorts of movies on Astro, whatever shit movies they broadcast these days. Like that fucking dumb insulted my intelligence The Hitcher and Kingpin. Warning: May puke several times and cry like Rafidah.

So, I’ve resorted to something new. Watching this:

the bund

Hehehehehehe.

The English translation of this show is “The Bund” (Chinese: 上海灘; pinyin: Shàng Hǎi tān; lit. Shanghai Beach).

I bought it from Speedy Video. Hmm, cannot remember the price but convert to Singapore Dollars, cheap-lah! So many more classics I want to buy and watch, the next one will be King of Gamblers, starring Tse Yin, Lisa Wong and Chow Yun Fatt also. I want to watch the Leon Lai wan also hahaha, some crappy love story, my childhood show, which made me fell in love with Leon Lai. Now no more la, now is Keanu Reeves.

the bund

I am now at Episode 8. Sometimes I get lost because there is no Malay translation. Yes, I shamelessly admit that when I watch Chinese shows hor, I usually read the Malay subtitles. Because I really cannot understand those high-class Cantonese. Dah lah my Cantonese is limited to daily basic conversation only, such as “tiu”, “hamkahling”, “wei”, “tiunei”, “fong pei”, “chowhai”, so most of the time, I don’t understand what’s going on in the story.

Because the film is really ancient, sometimes the music and the props and the sound effects are really bizarre. Probably not the theme song, sang by Francis Yip. That song is classic. My late grandpa used to always ask me to play that song on the piano.

Hmm, if anyone has watched right, can answer me this and only this? Don’t fucking give me any spoiler.

Why did Hui Man Keong betray Fung King Yiu? Something gotta do with that Japanese woman and those containers of weapons. Then at the same time, Ting Lik asked Hui Man Keong to marry Ching Ching but earlier, Hui Man Keong was reluctant to marry her, but because of this scandal with these containers of weapons, Hui Man Keong asked Ching Ching to marry him, like so desperate like that. Now Fung King Yiu is searching for Hui Man Keong and Hui Man Keong is hiding from Fung King Yiu. And Ting Lik also felt disappointed with Hui Man Keong and I still don’t understand what’s going on. I thought Fung King Yiu liked Hui Man Keong? Or what? Have I gotten it all wrong? And what organization is that, wanting the Japanese woman dead?

Also, did Fung King Yiu really killed Hui Man Keong’s reporter friend? If yes, why? If no, then who did it? If Fung King Yiu didn’t like Hui Man Keong, why didn’t Fung King Yiu reject when Hui Man Keong got engaged with his daughter, Ching Ching?

Oh man, hope some good Samaritan out there can shed some light on this.

Cos I went to Wikipedia, AND FIRST FEW LINES OREDI GAVE ME THE SPOILER MACHAOHAIIZ!!!!!!!!!!!

WIKI SHOULD EAT YELLOW SNOW AND DIE.

You know I’ve always complained about having this stupid mediocre pop voice of mine, I’ve always always wanted a sexy, sultry, husky voice like Kurt Cobain’s. If you listen to Kurt Cobain’s voice properly when he sings in his songs, he has this natural dual vocal system. My favourite is Lake of Fire. Actually you can train one, you can train your vocals to develop those kind of sound, but in the long term, it will hurt your throat.

I know because I just learnt it from my Nintendo DS last night while playing the game “Trauma Centre - Under The Knife” HAHAHAHA~~~!!!!!! I am playing the role as a newbie surgeon, so I successfully operated on a patient with throat injuries and incidently, he is a rocker.

WooooooOOooo (till fade).

trauma centre<br />

The game is actually quite cool cos it teaches you how to perform medical procedures. I am now stuck somewhere and my patient has died a few 20 or so times. Need to look at walkthrough already. :P

A visit to the university recently made me felt so, sad. Seeing all these youngsters and all the time that they still have made me felt old. I always have this thinking that I could have done so much more when I was younger. But on the other hand, I felt that I’ve done everything. Oh nevermind, just babbling mindlessly.

I think if I quit my current job, I want to go work in a university. Uh huh, at first was at the airport, and then now, the university. I should think it’s quite fun to be in a company of youngsters, full of vibrant, full of excitement, but no point of views. That’s where I come in. That’s where I will be a very good influencer on their decision making.

Thought of going out today but it’s raining now. Sien.

I’m not bitter anymore, because I know that what we had was real. And if in some distant place in the future we see each other in our new lives, I’ll smile at you with joy and remember how we spent the summer beneath the trees, learning from each other and growing in love.

The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds, and that’s what you’ve given me. That’s what I hope to give to you forever.

I love you. I’ll be seeing you. Noah."

One of my 2008 resolutions

…is to watch as many movies as I can this year. In the cinemas or on VCDs or DVDs. So from today onwards, I shall have a post dedicated to record my achievements. I’ll have a permanent link on the side too.

The emoticons on the side depicts how I felt after the movie:

The Life of Today which is Me

Today was all me.

I woke up at 8am to greet my maid. And I fell. Here’s the story.

I got up from my bed and used my left foot to walk forward.

I couldn’t feel my left leg AT ALL.

So with no support, I fell on my left thigh with a bang. My toes and toe nails went the other direction, so it was bleeding inside the meat area because of the split. Don’t know why but my ankle also had a scratch so it’s now bloody. Some of my toes had cuts too.

Apparently, my leg was still sleeping, and apparently, this is quite common ok stop laughing.

PAIN LIKE FUCK x INFINITY OK???

And nobody carried me up cos I was alone this weekend. Sobs.

Then amidst the pain, I went online to search for movies to watch in the cinema. But then again I have already decided what I would like to watch, and that is Across the Universe.

The movie rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mr JetLi was correct. And I am now a Beatles fan bwahahaha.

The movie talks about love, lover love, brother and sister love, friendship love, it has a very general theme, but centers around love. What’s absolutely wonderful about this movie, is that they took some of the Beatles song to sing and act it out, so it’s more like a play/movie, you know like Evita and The Phantom of The Opera. And I really loved the interaction between the actors and how they blend the songs into the mood. I love it so much I’m going to see it the 2nd time.

Cos I watched it alone earlier emoticon and I need to share this joyous occasion with people who appreciate this kinda movies.

Actually watching movies alone in cinema is quite nice. Actually quite normal feeling cos if you go with a bunch of people, you won’t be talking to each other during the movie anyway. But of cos afterwards you get to debate if the storyline sucks or who’s boobs were bigger or why do they need to have one sex scene??? Something like that.

So liking the feeling of watching movies alone a lot, I decided to watch another one, so it’s like 2 movies in a row! Yippee! And I was Ms. Limping of the Day too. But don’t care lah.

I bought a ticket for The Darjeeling Limited and I was glad I made that choice because this movie rocks too!!! Well, not as meng-rock as Across the Universe; The Darjeeling Limited was more light-hearted and when you finished watching it you get that warm fuzzy feeling in your heart that goes "ahhhhh" kind. It’s starring Adrien Brody and Owen Wilson; actually I’m kinda surprised that Adrien Brody can act funny cos I didn’t like him that much after watching King Kong. The story is about 3 estranged brothers who traveled to India for some soul searching. And along the way they encountered many incidents, some of which were funny, others so serious it can move you to tears (some of the audiences were laughing at the wrong time, those muthafuckers). Love it love it love it.

Limping across to the next mall, I bought 3 books cos I haven’t been reading in a while.

One is by Nicholas Sparks called Dear John. Nicholas Sparks is my favourite writer cos he is super romantic in his words. I shed tears when I read his books. I like that kinda feeling.

Next, I bought Wild Swans by Jung Chang, it’s about the story of 3 generations of women in her own family - grandmother, mother and daughter - revealing the whole tragic history of China’s twentieth century. I am beginning to be interested in the history of China after reading The Rape of Nanking and after my travel to Beijing. It’s a bloody thick book.

And the last book I gotten is by Andrew Grant, it’s called Death In The Kingdom. And it’s an autographed copy! Woooh!! I’m so a sucker for autographed copy books just cause they are autographed copy books. Well, it’s about a British agent who murdered the son of Thailand’s top underworld boss plus government conspiracies shit. Yay.

After that, still reluctant to go home and still limping, I went to karaoke for 3 hours alone, so now I am back. It’s 2:15am in the morning now and I just checked my leg injuries.

There is a big blue blackish bruise on my left thigh.

My 2nd left toe is also blue. Like sudah mereput.

My ankle has like a 5 cent red patch of dried blood scratch type.

And it’s still fucking painful.

Ok, definitely going to see a doctor tomorrow. Good night.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be ~~~

Movie Review: Blood Brothers

I’m sorry Daniel, you know I’m a fan of yours but the movie Blood Brothers…

blood brothers

from wiki

SUCKED BIG TIME! emoticon

Ok the end.

No wait, I haven’t finished ranting. The only real reason why I bought the original copy of the DVD was because I wanted to support Daniel Wu and Shu Qi (everybody adores Shu Qi, who doesn’t? I really want to hate her but I can’t), but while watching it earlier, I just couldn’t wait for the movie to end because it was really sucky. Argh man! What a waste of my money!!! Eugene told me that the movie really ‘pui hao sui’ (translate from Cantonese literarily means spit saliva). Now I agree with him. He said I sohai oredi go and buy the DVD. I’m not admitting anything here…

The story line’s so cliche, it’s almost like Warlords I tell ya, it’s just set in a different era. Sigh. Looks like directors are really losing their creativity on story writing. No wait, I need to blame on the story writer instead of the director. No wait both of them are connected somehow, so both needs to be dissed and dismissed.

Well, if I could be a director, I would want to make a show about…. about….

Yeah right, as if I’m going to share it with you. Don’t want anyone stealing my ideas now!

Phhbbbbttt.

Let’s elaborate.

The movie’s sucky because:

  1. No depth in character. 3 brothers? Like since when? Nobody knew. How come they got so close? Nobody knew.
  2. Daniel’s character suddenly very expert with weapons. From a kampong boy. No logic.
  3. Shu Qi gets all the good men and it sucks because I’m jealous.

(My boyfriend is playing my Nintendo DS next to me and I’m getting distracted. Lost my train of thoughts.)

I’ll think of more sucky points, after this. Anyway, this movie was really forgettable. What a disappointment.

Movie Review: The Warlords

So before I watched the movie, I heard that The Warlords was the most expensive Chinese movie made to date. And rumour has it that it mostly because of Jet Li’s salary.

Well, rumour or not, it was definitely worth it! Jet Li’s the GOD in this movie. I love him. I’ve been adoring him since I watched Tai Chi Master, which I just did again earlier with original DVD mind you, and he’s so adorable when there was a part he went insane. So cute argh, just want to pinch his face.

I love Jet Li; he is humble and kind and well, from his blog I know he is but how is he in real life, I really don’t know. And I guess a part of me would not want to know after my bitter experience with him. So it’s nice to be gazing at Jet Li from afar right now.

Jet Li has the best ass-kicking moves. Especially in Tai Chi Master, his body moves like omg-so-hot. And in Fearless too, I love it when he gets wicked. Like omg-so-hot. Then turn humble omg-like-so-freaking-hot.

the warlords poster

But in the movie Warlords, there weren’t a lot of ass-kicking moves from him. There were lotsa face close-ups (is it me or Jet Li’s really gotten fat?), a lot of expressive acting, a lot of dialogue and one stupid love scene which I thought was not necessary. Chinese movies are getting really Americanize with this one-night-stand and must-have-at-least-one-sex-scene-in-movie thing. What happened to our traditional Chinese values hello? Are women permitted to just sleep with everyone they see eventhough they’re in uniform? Geez. Not everyone wants to see some stupid love scene lah.

OK back to the movie, I thought it was just OK. It is mainly talking about brotherhood, set in time of war during those days. I guess the story line’s predictable. Every story line about brotherhood is predictable. You meet in odd circumstances, you become ‘brothers’ by drinking each other’s blood/kill an animal/kill a family member/chop of a finger, then along the line, a brother will betray another one because of power/money/girl/guy. And someone has to die. The difference is the era settings.

It was just alright, nothing breathtaking.

Not as good as "Fearless (Huo Yian Jia)", not as artistic as "Hero", not as nice as "Tai Chi Master", not as elaborate as "The Curse of The Golden Flower". As a matter of fact, I thought "The Curse of The Golden Flower" was nicer than Warlords. emoticon

But I should say, the consolation was Jet Li, he definitely stole the show.

Andy LAUUuuu

What a coincidence, I saw Andy Lau last Saturday night at Shaw Orchard!!!!!! He was there in less than 5 minutes to promote the movie Warlords!!!!! I saw him in less than 2 seconds amidst the crowd!!!!!!

He’s so handsome in real life. And short. *star strucked*

Then I went to watch Golden Compass. So boring and illogical.

OK, that’s all for now.
